Victoria Francés was born on October 25th 1982. Since her early years, she’s felt a fascination for Galicia’s beautiful forests, where she spent much of her childhood.
After travelling to larger metropolitan cities like London and Paris, the setting where the masterpieces of gothic literature were already legendary, she fell in love with gothic art. Her illustrations and sketches recall the dreamlike world of gothic romanticism. Influenced by the expressive images depicted in the paintings of the Pre-Raphaelites, her themes transport us to an ancient world full of symbols and magic. Suffering creatures banished from our world take refuge in her dark castels and mansions. With her art she is paying homage to writers such as Goethe, Edgar Allan Poe, Baudelaire, and Bram Stoker.
She attended the San Carlos University, Valencia, Spain where she studied Fine Arts. Her most recent published works are her three books: Favole I - Lágrimas de piedra (Stone Tears), Favole II – Libérame (Free Me) and Favole III – Gélida Luz (Frozen Light). They are based on her memories from different cities she visited and include images and stories she wrote. The first volume is a story about a young vampire who was recently initiated in the world of darkness and is forced to hide in the shades thru three cities, Verona, Venice and Genoa in search of his lover Ezequel. It was a sensation at the 2004 Saló del Cómic in Barcelona, attaining widespread success in all the countries where it has been published.
This exceptionally gifted artist and at the same time marvellous illustrator and narrator can expect a successful futures ahead of her. Her ability to make readers (who aren’t even familiar with the gothic art) fascinated with her work is extraordinary. We can expect to see a lot more of Victoria Francés in the future.
